INTRODUCTION: MISSIONS @ BETHEL

There are many ways to get plugged into God’s global mission to reach the unreached. Here are just some opportunities for involvement at individual and corporate levels at Bethel.

Pray

Praying regularly for our missionaries is a wonderful way to bless them! Check out the pictures of our Bethel-supported missionaries on the wall near the West Wing Gym. Monthly newsletters with praises and prayer requests from our missionaries are also available on the missions table in the hall leading from the sanctuary to the West Wing Gym.

Prayer in missions is crucial! Pray for our world using the book Operation World by Patrick Johnstone and Jason Mandryk, or access Operation World online at http://www.operationworld.org.You will gain challenging, interesting information about people groups and learn how God is working all around the world. Seek out how the Lord may be leading you to join Him in His work!

Write

Sending a letter, card, or email are all great ways of letting missionaries know that you are thinking of them and that they are appreciated and loved. Please remember to be sensitive to the political situation of each country — we don’t want to jeopardize the safety of any missionary. Please contact Kay Bartlett from the Missions Committee if you are interested in writing to a missionary/family (kart@kingston.net)

Give

We encourage you to first be faithful to giving, and beyond that there are opportunities to give to individual missionaries through their agencies. Sending care packages is also a great way to bless missionaries. Please contact the Bethel Missions Committee for more information (kart@kingston.net).

Participate in missions-related events:

  • OMF Heart for Asia Conference: Overseas Mission Fellowship’s “Heart for Asia Kingston” Conference is held each fall at Bethel Church. Our last conference was Saturday, November 5th 2011from 9:00a.m. – 2:00 p.m. Interested in short term service in East Asia? Or long term? Ask your questions of the OMF team of missionaries. All are welcome. For more information on the 2012 conference, contact Martha Blair (
  • Attend the annual Bethel Bear Your Brother’s Burden Banquet

Read

Read missionary biographies — probably the most “dangerous” genre of literature ever written. Somehow a person is never the same after reading about the life and work of a missionary. Check out the missions section of the Bethel Church library for missions-related books.

BETHEL-SUPPORTED LOCAL MISSIONARIES

Dan and Sue McIver

Navigators, Queen’s University, Kingston

Dan and Sue have been ministering at Queen’s University with the Navigators since 1994. In that time they have had the pleasure of coming alongside many fantastic students who have gone on to work and minister all over Canada and in different parts of the world.  Dan and Sue are helping university students in their relationship with God at a critical time in their lives — as they are choosing their career paths, lifelong friends, and spouses.   With God’s help, the McIvers are guiding students to make good life choices, share their faith, and go deeper with God.  Dan and Sue have three boys – Zachary, Ryan and Cameron.

brenda wang

Navigators, Queen’s University, Kingston

A graduate of Queen’s University, brenda seeks to build relationships with students to help them deeply encounter Christ, live in authentic community and to embody Christ intentionally to people who don’t know Him.  Her particular passions are to make disciple makers and to pursue a holistic approach to God’s Kingdom focusing on issues of social justice and the environment.

Mimi Kashira

Inter-Varsity Christian Fellowship, International Student Ministry, Queen’s University

Mimi reaches out to international students through the International Friendship Program at Queen’s University. She and her team of volunteers host weekly English conversation classes and investigative bible studies, as well as regular events to introduce internationals to Canadian culture and people. The annual Christmas Getaway at Camp IAWAH is an opportunity for these students to enjoy a Canadian Christmas experience.
