How to Get Involved in Missions at Bethel
There are many ways to get plugged into God’s global mission to reach the unreached. Here are just some opportunities for involvement at individual and corporate levels at Bethel.
Bethel Missionaries
Pray
Praying regularly for our missionaries is a wonderful way to bless them! Check out the pictures of our Bethel-supported missionaries on the wall near the West Wing Gym. Monthly newsletters with praises and prayer requests from our missionaries are also available on the missions table in the hall leading from the sanctuary to the West Wing Gym
Write
Sending a letter, card, or email are all great ways of letting missionararies know that you are thinking of them and that they are appreciated and loved. Please remember to be sensitive to the political situation of each country — we don’t want to jeopardize the safety of any missionary. Please contact Jenny Lee from the Missions Committee for specific details (jenny.lee1@gmail.com).
Give
We encourage you to first be faithful to tithing, and beyond that there are opportunities to give to individual missionaries through their agencies. Sending care packages is also a great way to bless missionaries. Please contact the Bethel Missions Committee for more information (jenny.lee1@gmail.com).
Missions at Bethel
BBYBBB
Our Bethel Bear your Brothers’ Burden Banquet (BBYBBB) is an annual event that focuses on needy areas of the world and projects to provide practical help. This year’s BBYBBB will be held on March 27th, beginning at 6:00 p.m. with a meal in the West Wing Gym. We are supporting the Ratanak Foundation and their efforts to fight human trafficking in Cambodia.
Bethel Missionary Fellowship (BMF)
BMF is a gathering of missions-minded people fellowshipping, praying, and discussing missions-relevant topics. This monthly evening also provides a great chance to meet some of our Bethel-supported missionaries. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month beginning at 7:00 p.m. between September and May. Contact Phyllis Turrell for more information (613-544-4034).
Volunteer Help
The Missions Committee occasionally needs help with set-up and tear down for events, and also welcomes volunteers who are interested in contributing their skills and knowledge to its initiatives. Depending on the initiative or project, we are looking for people with creative, culinary, and planning skills and more!
Other Ways to Get Involved in Missions
Study and Learn
Take the Perspectives on the World Christian Movement Course. This 15-week academically-credited introduction to missions is offered in various cities in Canada and online. International and local mission experts serve as lecturers for this course which covers the biblical, historical, cultural, and strategic aspects of missions. Search the Perspectives Canada website for more information. www.perspectivescanada.org
Read
Read missionary biographies — probably the most “dangerous” genre of literature ever written. Somehow a person is never the same after reading about the life and work of a missionary. Check out the missions section of the Bethel Church library for missions-related books.
Pray
Prayer in missions is crucial! Pray for our world using the book Operation World by Patrick Johnstone and Jason Mandryk, or access Operation World online at www.operationworld.org. You will gain challenging, interesting information about people groups and learn how God is working all around the world. Seek out how the Lord may be leading you to join Him in His work!
